Fierce Lips for the Spring!!

Oranges, Purples and Pinks.... Oh my!!!

I'm so excited to announce that orange, pastel purple and pink lipsticks are totally in for this spring!! I know we've been on the natural high for awhile now, but color lips are definitely making a strong comeback! Now I'm not saying you have to throw your favorite tinted luster, dazzle or lip glasses out the window (oh baby, sinnnamon, beaux, or moth to flame, etc...). I’m just suggesting adding a stick or two of color to your makeup collection :)

To capture this look, first pick shades that look great on you and compliment your skin. Awesome brands that I've used are M.A.C., Lancome', Christian Dior, Benefit and Chanel. Also, Sephora is a candy store for makeup lovers and carries several brands all in one location! :) After finding a shade that you like and that looks amazing on you, next you need a neutral lip liner that blends well with your lip color and the lipstick. Most times this is a light to medium-dark brown. For a more dramatic look, you can use a different color liner, but make sure your liner is blended well and doesn't stand out after applying your lipstick. Lastly, you want to make sure the rest of your makeup compliments your lips. For example, if you’re going to wear a pastel pink lip, you could accent your cheeks with a pink tinted blush and a black shimmer smokey eye. Try to stay in the general color families of your lipstick. For example, if you’re wearing orange lipstick, you don't want to cross over into pinks, purples and greens. Try to bring out the orange with warm hues of gold, brown or crimson...

Mint Message:

Try using a pastel or orange hue lipstick to brighten up your spring look! Whether wearing all black, an abstract print or denim and a fitted T, you can create a fun and "Minty" look by making those lips pop!! The wonderful thing about a color lip is you can wear it as a day or night look! Just go with a more natural, lighter look for day like my look below (my lips are more fuchsia than pastel in this pic) or add deeper shades, heavier coverage like the night look sample! Just remember these three tips: 1) find a color that compliments your skin and attire 2) find a neutral lip liner 3) use complimentary blush/bronzer and shadows to flatter your lips! And last but not least, as Tim Gunn says "Make it Work!" :)

  1. I have worn bright red with a sleek black dress and got tons of compliments on it. It took some courage though to go that bright!
